The challenge
With PFAS regulation tightening globally, the display OEM needed a PFAS-free anti-reflective and anti-fouling solution for foldable displays that could match or exceed the surface property retention of incumbent PFAS-based coatings under repeated mechanical stress.

Our approach
Kriya’s PFAS-free ARAF technology, based on functionalised HSiO₂ nanoparticles, was tested against PFAS-based references for water contact angle, anti-smudge durability, and retention after steel wool abrasion cycles. The formulation was designed for UV cure compatibility with R2R processing.

The outcome
The PFAS-free coating achieved WCA above 100° with superior retention versus PFAS-based alternatives after repeated abrasion. Anti-smudge properties (fingerprint resistance and marker wipe-off) were maintained across the full test protocol. The coating is R2R-compatible for volume production.
