Low refractive index coatings

Kriya’s Low Refractive Index (LRI) coatings are available  both as 100% solids as well as a solvent based. In both cases they are UV curable and the refractive index can be custom made.

The 100% low refractive PFAS free UV curable product is available with any refractive index starting at 1.36 or higher.

The solvent based UV curable version has a (RI) as low as 1.30 for polymeric substrates and is optionally available as an inorganic thermal curable coating for glass. Both categories are thus PFAS free coatings.

These coatings can be used in optical stacks to match the RI requirements in any design. They are frequently used to reduce the reflection of a plastic substrate up to a certain extent, or as part of a waveguide structure to guide light into a specific direction. In combination with a Kriya’s hard coat or Antistatic hard coat as a base layer it is possible to add properties such as additional mechanical and/or antistatic properties. The LRI coating can be applied by standard wet coating techniques such as gravure and slot die, and in combination with the High refractive index layers as offered by Kriya sophisticated anti-reflection coatings can be made. Thicknesses can vary from 100nm to 15 microns, haze free.
