Single-layer hardcoat passes 200,000 fold cycles with PFAS-free anti-smudge
A major Korean display Tier-1

01
The challenge
The OEM required a multi-functional coating for foldable displays that combined hard coating, antistatic, and antifouling properties in a single layer. The coating had to survive 200,000 fold cycles at 1.5R radius without cracking or loss of surface properties, and had to be PFAS-free to meet upcoming regulatory requirements.
02
Our approach
Kriya formulated a UV-curable multi-functional coating (35 wt% solids) on 75 µm PET, combining hard coating, antistatic (10⁹ Ω/sq), and antifouling (WCA 110°) in a single layer. The coating was validated through exhaustive QC including 2,000-cycle steel wool abrasion, ballpoint pen drop tests, and permanent marker wipe-off testing.
03
The outcome
The coating passed all qualification criteria: pencil hardness 3H, surface resistivity 8.0×10⁹ Ω/sq, WCA retained above 95° after 2,000 steel wool cycles at 1 kg/cm², and permanent marker wipe-off confirmed. The coating passes 200,000 fold cycles at 1.5R, compatible with R2R processing for volume production.
Why Kriya
Kriya delivered three functions in one PFAS-free layer, eliminating separate coating steps and reducing both processing cost and regulatory risk for the OEM’s foldable product line.
