16 km additional EV range through solar heat control glazing

For an EV car model, a study was carried out

01

The challenge

The EV manufacturer needed to extend vehicle range without increasing battery size, which adds weight and cost. AC power consumption in warm climates was identified as a significant parasitic load, particularly during the regulatory shift toward stricter EU CO₂ targets that penalise each g/km above target at €95 per vehicle.

02

Our approach

Kriya’s ATO solar heat control glazing was modelled for the premium EV segment (85.6 kWh average battery, 442 km WLTP range). The integration blocks 250 W/m² of NIR solar radiation while remaining fully transparent to 5G, RF, and LiDAR signals—a critical requirement that ITO-based alternatives cannot meet.

03

The outcome

The analysis showed up to 16 km range extension, 8.5 kg battery saving equivalent to approximately €325 per vehicle, and 35% AC power reduction. For the compact segment (39.3 kWh, 227 km), the extension was 7 km with 4.6 kg battery saving worth approximately €159.

Why Kriya

Unlike ITO alternatives, Kriya ATO does not block RF signals, making it the only viable solar heat control solution for connected and autonomous vehicles.
